Hospice Home Care
- Terminal illness with life expectancy < 6 months if disease runs expected course
- Certified by two physicians (attending and hospice medical director)

Hospice House
Hospice & Palliative Care of the Piedmont provides inpatient hospice care at the Hospice House located at, 408 West Alexander Avenue in Greenwood, SC. All care is offered based on bed availability and the medical needs of the patient.
Inpatient Hospice Levels of Care
The Hospice House offers three levels of care. All eligible for care must meet medical criteria for hospice care. The levels of inpatient care are:
General Inpatient (GIP): Those eligible require a high level of skilled care which cannot be provided in the home setting and usually includes medical management of pain or other associated symptoms. This level of care is short term, usually days, and is determined by the Medical Director based on the condition of the patient. All care required is usually covered by Medicare and other third party payers.
Respite: All hospice patients are eligible for up to seven days of inpatient care to allow the caregiver relief from the 24 hour care giving duties. Patients may be eligible for future respite care after 30 days. This level of care is covered by Medicare and Medicaid.
Transitional Care: The patient’s condition is more stable and patient does not meet eligibility for GIP care but are unable to be cared for in the home. This level of care includes personal and nursing care which is custodial and is usually provided less than 3 months.
This level of care includes two components of care: routine hospice care and room and board. The routine hospice (medications, supplies, etc) is covered by third party payers as if the patient were a home. The room and board services are not covered by third party payers and are billed to the patient. For patients unable to pay the full room and board rate, financial assistance may be available.
